Thomas Gerrie is a father and business owner who has spent most of his life in the Pacific Northwest. He graduated from the University of Washington and returned to Oregon, where he runs his family’s vineyard and winery in the Willamette Valley and is raising his ten-year-old son.
He writes about fatherhood and family, the friendships that survive the years, and the loves that alter us even when they do not last. He also writes about the larger and more difficult questions of the world his son is inheriting, about politics and poverty, technology and artificial intelligence, education and health care, addiction and gambling, land and water and climate, and the widening distance between the lives we say we want for our children and the world we are actually preparing to give them. Beneath much of it is a question he keeps finding new ways to ask: what do we inherit from the people and places that came before us, what are we willing to protect while it is still ours to protect, and what will be left for those who come after us?
